It Takes a Community to Raise a Child, and the Community Grows in Return

When Rachel (name changed to preserve confidentiality) walked through the doors of Sea to Sky Community Services’ childcare centre as a toddler, she had no idea just how deeply connected to that space she’d be one day.

Today, she’s on the other side welcoming little ones with open arms, guiding their growth, and working alongside the very people who once nurtured her.

From Supported to Supportive

Rachel’s journey from client to educator shows what’s possible when a community comes together to support its youngest members. Thanks to affordable childcare, accessible therapy, and family support programs, Rachel grew up supported by her community.

Now, she’s helping to give that same foundation to others.

The Ripple Effect of Affordable Childcare

Childcare isn’t just about supervision; it’s about building healthy futures. Affordable, local spaces give parents peace of mind, allow careers to thrive, and support early development. Yet access in the Sea to Sky is still a challenge, especially for infants and toddlers.

SSCS currently offers 236 licensed childcare spaces in Pemberton and Squamish — 180 of them through the $10-a-Day ChildCareBC program.

A Circle of Care

Rachel’s story is one of many that shows how investing in children creates a lasting impact. When a child is supported by their community, they grow into someone who strengthens it in return.

And that’s how healthy communities grow — full circle.
